Ovim zamenicama zamenjujemo prethodno pomenutu imenicu i pokazujemo odnos između njih. ‘Zgodne’ su zato što pomoću njih povezujemo dve tvrdnje u jednu:
Joe bought a house. This is the house.
This is the house that Joe bought.
A man gave me a book. This is the man.
This is the man who gave me a book.
The house was completed in 1955. It is famous for its architecture.
The house, which was completed in 1955, is famous for its architecture.
This is Sally. You met Sally at our house last year.
This is Sally, whom you met at our house last year.
This is a man. His house burnt down last night.
This is the man whose house burnt down last night.
“who” koristimo za lica
(i za životinje kada su u pitanju ljubimci)
Do you know the people who live in that house?
Benji, who is a clever dog, knows a lot of tricks.
“that” koristimo za lica
(i stvari i životinje)
I don’t like people that / who talk too much.
There are lots of things that I need to buy before the trip.
This is the house that my father built.
“that” ili “who”?
‘That’ možemo da koristimo umesto ‘who’, naročito kada je u pitanju svakodnevni (neformalni) govor.
I don’t like people who / that talk too much.
Pazi:
I spoke to Mr Smith, who lives next door. (not: I spoke to Mrs Smith that lives...)
“whose” koristimo za lica
i stvari i životinje, ali je za stvari i životinje ćešže “of which”
This is the girl whose brother won the medal.
He gave me the book whose leg / the leg of which was broken.
In front of him is a cupboard, whose doors / the doors of which are open.

I asked Jim which programme he wanted to watch. He said that it didn’t matter which.
She works for a company which has its offices in Germany.
The cat was killed by a rat which was living under the house.
“whom” ili “who”
Ukoliko reč možeš zameniti sa ‘she’, koristi ‘who’, ukoliko je menjaš sa ‘her’, koristi ‘whom’
That is the man whom I saw yesterday.
Hoćeš li reći: I saw he ili I saw him?
This is the man who gave me the book.
Hoćeš li reći: He gave me the book ili Him gave me the book?
